Yesterday, I wore one of my Contra Composition necklaces on an epic trip to Ikea, and it got me thinking…
You may be eyeing up one of the Contra Composition necklaces but you may also be concerned about buying such a serious necklace online. You might be wondering if it’s going to be too heavy? You might even be worried that you won’t end up wearing it that often.
And I get those concerns. Which is why I wanted to share with you just how I design the Contra Composition necklaces to be comfortable enough to wear all day, every day.
First, these necklaces are made using cabochons, not beads.
Cabochons are flat backed stones that give maximum impact without the weight of a rounded bead. And because they’re cabachons, they’re in a totally secure setting, meaning you don’t have to worry about breakage like you would with a chunky bead necklace.
And speaking of those settings, I handcraft each one from steel, leaving the backs open. Not only does this highlight the beauty of the stones on both sides, it seriously cuts down on weight.
And while, admittedly, there are certainly lighter statement necklaces available, the last feature that keeps these necklaces comfortable to wear is the large chain. It distributes the weight more evenly around the neck than a skinny chain, meaning you can wear it all day. (I know, because I do.)
Bold jewelry will always be my jam. (Nothing turns heads and draws compliments quite like a statement necklace.) But it’s incredibly important to me that the jewelry I design be comfortable enough to wear every day. After all, it’s hard to make a statement when your jewelry is sitting at home in a drawer.
