In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been posting a lot more pictures of myself around here lately. That’s because I’ve made the shift to modeling my jewelry designs on myself. (And learning to like pictures of myself in the process.)
But the result is that I’m feeling a little bit at a loss as to what to call the kind of blogging I’m doing these days.
I wouldn’t totally call it a style blog, because I’m not really interested in showcasing full body shots of my outfits. (Though I might still throw in the occasional outfit inspiration post, like I used to do a lot of.) And clearly I’m not a makeup blogger.
I guess technically you could call this a jewelry blog (since I am using it to promote my jewelry line) but somehow that doesn’t quite feel right either. (I think it has something to do with my focus on wanting to show off my jewelry being worn and the way my jewelry makes you feel when you wear it.)
So what’s the best way to describe what I’m doing? Is there such a thing as a selfie blogger? Because even though that feels a bit narcissistic, in some ways it feels like the closest description to my current creative project.
So maybe I’m a jewelry/style blogger (since I do sometimes share posts specifically on how to style your jewelry) who just focuses on her face and the top half of her body?!? (Because my bottom half basically lives in jeans anyway.)
Regardless, I’m actually having fun playing with my own image, so don’t expect these types of posts to stop anytime soon.
And on that note, I’m off to read a few books on the history of self-portraiture (this one, this one, and this one, if you’re curious) to remind myself that there’s a long history of artists using images of themselves in their work!
And speaking of promoting my jewelry line, I’m wearing one of my new Contra necklaces in these pics. It’s available now in my online store!
