Every since I started this one dress, thirty ways challenge, I’ve been wanting to style a sweater over the dress like my friend Stasia, who is a master at wearing sweaters over dresses. But the reality is, Stasia and I are built completely differently, and every time I pulled on a sweater over the dress, it only ever looked ok. The reason for this is that I have broader shoulders than Stasia, so while she needs width up top, I tend to look better with styles that have vertical lines. (To break up my broad expanse of chest.) This is why the wrap dress as duster thing works so well on my body.
Still, I was determined to successfully style a sweater over the wrap dress. And then, I unearthed this military vest from the back of my closet. I actually originally thought about just wearing the vest over the dress, but it came off a little blah. But the sweater adds a pop of color and the vest adds the vertical lines to make this an outfit that really works for me. (Plus, it helps that I just got my hair colored. Vibrant red hair makes anything pop!)
With the bold Contra necklace and chunky heeled boots, this whole look makes me feel really put together and really badass at the same time. (Which is pretty much my desired style outcome.) And I can’t explain why, but something about a military jacket or vest just makes me feel badass in a way that a leather jacket somehow doesn’t. (And don’t even get me started on how I can’t get into jean jackets.) But that’s the thing about style. We all have different things that make us look and feel great!
About the challenge: I’m styling this grey wrap dress a different way every day for thirty days. Read more about the challenge (and how I’m aiming for creative style with constraints) in this post.
