I mentioned before that this winter I had to temporarily move out of my studio so that we can repair the subfloor.
Of course, before we can do that, I have to clean out the studio! Lots of orders plus the winter blues have meant I’m a little slow to get moving, but this week I actually put in some serious cleaning time!
There’s still a long way to go, but I’m choosing to focus on the process!
Part of the cleaning process means also means moving a few more things to the current studio, including moving this little butcher block cart and all my raising and forming tools upstairs, so that I can work on some projects for Modern Metalsmithing!
And since I feel like it’s confusing to keep track of which space is which (and because I really like naming things) I’ve now decided that the original studio will be referred to as the garden studio (because it’s surrounded by plants outside) and the current studio will be the treehouse studio (because not only is it filled with plants, but it sits on the second floor and is surrounded by pine trees).
I think this will be helpful moving forward as well, because I’ve got some plans for how I’ll use both spaces (fingers crossed for in-person classes and workshops) once we repair the floor in the garden studio!

The light you have coming through the windows is perfect!
I love that you show photos of your not-so-perfectly-in-order studio. When I see photos of “picture-perfect studios”, it makes me wonder how much work actually takes place there. It’s a bit like the mis-leading difference between seeing picture-perfect beautiful-people-doing-beautiful-things on Instagram vs.social media posts of real people showing their “imperfect” bodies, going about their “imperfect” lives.
