Yesterday I shared how I beat the winter blues by plant shopping and one of my favorite local(ish) greenhouse finds, Ott’s. So I thought it was fitting to share one of my Ott’s splurges hanging out in my studio, a sansevieria sayuri.
I will admit that when I first started buying plants, I wasn’t too excited by snake plants. Even as people told me they were perfect for a self-described black thumb, I stubbornly avoided them, because I wanted to try something “harder.”
But that all changed when I discovered how many beautiful varieties of snake plants there actually are. Case in point, this gorgeous silver snake plant I scooped up at Ott’s. This is actually the most I’ve ever spent on a single plant, but the fact that I hadn’t seen one before (I’ve since seen one at another greenhouse) combined with the fact that I’m less likely to kill it made me make the splurge.
That and those gorgeous silvery, green leaves:
I originally had another spot picked out for this plant, but after splurging on it, I wanted it someplace I would see it often. So I opted to put it in a corner of my studio near my workbench, right next to the chair from my MFA thesis.
And I’ve been looking at that chair A LOT lately, as I remind myself that my new, colorful line of jewelry isn’t a total departure from my black and white branding, but rather a return to my roots.
