It’s only December 6th but I’ve already watched three Christmas movies. And given how much time we’re already going to be spending at home this holiday season, we’ll all probably be watching a lot more. The three movies I’ve watched so far definitely hit different moods, so I thought I’d round them up here to help you find your next holiday watch.
To make you laugh: Elf
Unpopular opinion: I’m not a big fan of Will Ferrell. In fact, I can’t stand most of his movies. But I freaking love Elf. It’s just so sweet, honest, and funny and Will Ferrell plays the lead part to perfection. Since I first watched it, it’s made it into my holiday rotation every year. Also the soundtrack is fantastic and the casting is delightful, so it really just ticks all the boxes.
To make you sing: White Christmas
This will perennially be one of my all time favorites, if for nothing other than the costumes. (Seriously, if I had to pick one movie to base my wardrobe on, it would probably be this one.). But add in the songs and the dancing (oh, the dancing) and I could just binge watch this movie all winter long. In fact, I’ll probably have it on in the background more than once while I work in the studio this month.
To make you cry: The Happiest Season
I sat down to watch this new release from Hulu earlier this week while editing photos, because I love Aubrey Plaza and Dan Levy is a treasure, and it was just as lovely and funny as I expected it to be. What I didn’t expect was that it would also make me cry, but the themes it deals with (primarily dealing with the complex emotions and expectations of your family) hit me hard. But in the best way, which is why I would totally recommend adding this one to your holiday watch list. (Just keep a box of tissues handy!)
