When I was photographing this pair of new plant stakes, I decided it would be fun to put myself in a few of the pictures. While I’m really happy with the end result (pictured above), what I actually love about these images is they show my thought process as I work through image ideas. Because this was an impromptu photoshoot, I didn’t start with a fully formed image in mind. Instead, I responded to what I was working with and adapted from there.
It started with this simple picture of me behind the plant stakes:
But I realized I wanted more depth to the image, so I added another plant behind me:
But something was still missing. Since I hadn’t intended to photograph myself in this moment, I wasn’t wearing any makeup. But I also didn’t want to go full-on just to get some quick shots. So I tossed on some bright lipstick and voila! A bold lip fixes everything!
