I love it when one shape can inspire two very different designs! I bought this Monstera plant (ok, it’s totally fake) a few weeks ago and it’s been hanging out in my studio ever since. So when I sat down to design a line of statement earrings for my online metalsmithing class, I knew I wanted to use this shape as inspiration. The first version is pretty true to the leaf shape itself, albeit with a tiny bit of stylization inspired by the Matisse cut-outs I’ve been looking at. But then I decided to abstract the shape further, taking a little inspiration from Calder’s jewelry, for a result that’s much more abstract but with a lot more movement!
