As I mentioned when I first launched my one dress, thirty ways challenge, I’m not one for minimalism or capsule wardrobes. I love clothes, I love to shop, and I don’t have any intention of pairing down my fairly extensive wardrobe anytime soon.
But what I do love is creativity within constraints.
I love experimenting with the pieces in my closet to come up with different ways to wear them. And I love taking a single piece (or pieces) and seeing how many different ways I can wear it.
Take this outfit that I wore on the final day of January’s one dress, thirty ways challenge. On that day, I opted to wear ALL THE LAYERS. But as I was putting that outfit together, I realized there were lots of other possibilities for the four pieces in that look.
So I challenged myself to come up with as many different outfits as possible out of those four pieces! The result is 15 different looks (once you count the outfits I wore that included those pieces during the one dress, thirty ways challenge.)
While I love some looks more than others, there’s no doubt that 15 outfits out of just four pieces is a lot of options! Which I hope should be inspiring to you whether you have an extensive closet like mine, are trying to pack lightly for a trip, or want to get more creative with your capsule wardrobe.
Oh yeah, and one more thing to note. Since I’m all about signature statement accessories, I decided to style all the outfits with my bold Contra necklace! (With the exception of one look from the January challenge that featured a smaller Contra necklace.)
I love how well the stone in the bold Contra necklace works with all the colors in these outfits, and I love the consistency of one powerful statement accessory. But you could also create even more variation by playing around with different accessories!
(Though if you did want your own signature statement accessory, you can find your own one of a kind Contra necklace in my online store.)
And with that, here are the 15 different outfits I came up with out of just four pieces of clothing (in no particular order!):
Look #1:
I was originally going to wear this outfit as part of the one dress, thirty ways challenge, but that was the day I decided to wear all the layers instead! Still, I like how I can drop the navy shirt dress from this outfit and have it feel completely different!
Look #2:
For this outfit, I swapped the wrap dress as duster for the shirt dress as duster for a look with a little more contrast!
Look #3:
This outfit drops both dresses as dusters and just goes for the simplicity of the skirt and chambray shirt.
Look #4:
And for this look, I swapped the chambray shirt for the navy shirt dress. (Because if the one dress challenge taught me anything, it’s that any dress can become a shirt if you wear a skirt over it!)
Look #5:
Of course, you don’t have to get into lots of fancy layers in order to count something as an outfit. This shirt dress works perfectly well on it’s own! (Especially when paired with a bold Contra necklace!)
Look #6:
I could have worn the grey wrap dress over the navy shirt dress as a duster (which technically would get me to 16 outfits!), but instead, I decided to use it as a skirt over the navy dress as a shirt.
Look #7:
For this look, I opted to wear the chambray shirt over the navy shirt dress.
Look #8:
And then I added the wrap dress as a duster to make this outfit a little warmer!
Look #9:
This may be one of my favorite looks of the group, layering the chambray shirt under the navy shirt dress for an added touch of attitude!
Look #10:
And then I added the skirt for another layer!
Look #11:
And topped it off with the wrap dress as duster. I like how this look shows that even wearing all four pieces can be done in different ways!
Look #12:
This look is from Day 26 of the January one dress challenge, and it’s the look that made me fall back in love with the navy shirt dress. (Which had been hanging out in the back of my closet for a while!)
Look #13:
Just like the previous look, this one came from the one dress challenge, and it’s the look that reminded me how much I like this chambray shirt!
Look #14:
And even though I didn’t technically count the wrap dress by itself for the one dress challenge, there’s no reason it can’t be an outfit on it’s own!
Look #15:
And here it is, the final look, which is actually the look that started it all! All four pieces, layered in a way that makes me feel like a total creative badass!
