It’s no secret that I’m super into pink and green right now. (And by right now, I mean since I started buying all the plants over a year ago.) So when I was walking around Palm Springs taking pictures of walls and hedgerows, this pink and green combo totally won out as my favorite.
And then of course I couldn’t resist looking for more combos of pink and green as I explored the city!
One of the things that struck me most about my trip to Palm Springs was the sheer amount of hedgerows and privacy walls throughout the city. I’m sure there’s something deep I could say about privacy versus community, but the truth is, as a form of visual color blocking, I found them super inspiring.
And while I couldn’t see what was on the other side (for the most part), I think they still made for some pretty interesting photos. (So much so that I’ve got another post coming up with a different color blocked color palette, because in case you couldn’t tell, I’m super into color right now!)
I spent last week in Palm Springs, and while I was there for Alt Summit, I will admit I spent a decent amount of time playing hooky from the conference. The truth was, there was just so much visual inspiration throughout Palm Springs that I was quite happy just to walk around, take pics, and take it all in.
I shared many of my favorite pics in my Instagram stories, but I also wanted to share them here as well. Since I started my new line of colorful jewelry, I’ve been thinking of myself as someone who collects color palettes, and that theme definitely came through in my photo taking in Palm Springs.
Yesterday I shared how I beat the winter blues by plant shopping and one of my favorite local(ish) greenhouse finds, Ott’s. So I thought it was fitting to share one of my Ott’s splurges hanging out in my studio, a sansevieria sayuri.
I will admit that when I first started buying plants, I wasn’t too excited by snake plants. Even as people told me they were perfect for a self-described black thumb, I stubbornly avoided them, because I wanted to try something “harder.”
I’ll admit it, as far as winters go, this one has been pretty mild. But that doesn’t mean the winter blues aren’t a real thing. Because while temps have been higher than normal, the sun has been pretty nonexistent. And while my favorite way to cope with winter is with a warm weather getaway, last winter I discovered a solution that’s a little easier to manage – plant shopping!
This weekend I’m heading off on another adventure (one where I’ll hopefully have lots of new pics to share when I get back). But before I go, I thought I’d share a few more selfies from my trip to Savannah last month.
Now I know when someone says selfie, you tend to think of quick snaps on your smartphone. But when it comes to taking pics of myself when I travel, I like to go all in on more traditional headshots, product shots, or lifestyle shots. (Which I share a little more about in this post.)
I think it’s pretty safe to say that my plants at least partially inspired the color palette for the fist batch of my new colorful, powdercoated necklaces! The colors of these modern chain necklaces are a pretty solid match for my peperomia and philodendron brasil!
The first batch of my new colorful chain necklaces (and other fun colorful jewelry) is now available in my online store and I couldn’t be more excited.
I also couldn’t be more excited about turning some of my photos of this new collection into fun GIFs. I love how playful these chains are, and a GIF (or a quick video) is the perfect way to show that off. (So expect more of them in the future!)

I mentioned in this post that I was embracing color (and pattern) more in my personal (and brand) aesthetic. But after mulling it over for a while, I decided it was time to bring color into my jewelry as well!
And the best way to do that is through powder coating!
If you’ve spent any time here on my blog, you know that I post a lot of pictures of myself. (No, I’m not a narcissist, it’s just the best way I’ve found to show off my jewelry!) But what you may not realize is that I take all of the pictures of myself, well, myself.
And that includes the pictures I take while traveling. That’s right, those pics I shared from Nevis and Savannah were taken completely solo. No Instagram husband, helpful friend, or professional photographer for me!
And since you may be wondering how to make that work for yourself (especially if, like me, you do a lot of solo travel, for work or play), I thought I would share the camera gear I bring with me to make it happen.
BTW, this is the same exact gear I use to photograph my jewelry on myself when I’m in my studio, I just add in a pair of these lights.
