It wouldn’t be an understatement to say that August is flying by. Already this month I’ve been camping at the lake, done a wholesale show in New York, and oh yeah, designed ALL the new statement earrings! Because despite having a lot on my plate this month, I’m having so much fun in the studio designing new work.
more new statement earrings (and a glimpse of my messy studio)
I’m knee deep in prep for my next wholesale show (a pop-up at the Yotel during NY Now with five other jewelry designers), in case it wasn’t obvious from the disaster that is my studio. And even though I’ve still got some sample of my best-sellers to finish this week, I spent the last few days working on new earrings designs.
What can I say, these new statement earrings really inspired me to start playing even more!
new statement earrings and a flowering succulent
Yesterday, I blew off everything on my to-do list to design these new statement earrings, and based on the response they are getting on Instagram, I’d say it was definitely worth my time. (Not to mention that I’ve been wearing them ever since!)
These are definitely the start of a new collection (even if I don’t know exactly where it’s going) so they haven’t made it into my online shop yet. If you want to know when they are available (which I promise will be soon) be sure to join my mailing list so you’ll be the first to know!
Update: these earrings are now part of my Essaint collection and are available in my online store!
yes, you can… wear big earrings and a chunky necklace
The other day I shared how you can wear statement earrings with multiple ear piercings, so today I thought I’d share how you can also wear statement earrings with a chunky chain necklace. Because as Iris Apfel says, sometimes “more is more.” (And mostly, I just wanted to share this gorgeous model shot of my jewelry being worn by someone other than me!)
Lucy necklace and large Eva earrings both available in my online store!
Get ready for a Contra pendant restock!
I shipped out this gorgeous, one of a kind stone yesterday and it hit me, it’s been way too long since I added a new batch of Contra Collection pendants to my online store.
So this week, I’m hunkering down in the studio to rectify that! My goal is to release a new batch next week, and if you don’t want to miss out (since every stone truly is one of a kind) be sure to join my mailing list to be the first to shop!
yes, you can… wear statement earrings when you have multiple ear piercings
I was a 90s teen, which means that, among other things, I have multiple piercings in each ear lobe. (Three to be exact. And fun fact: my mom pierced my second and third holes herself with a piercing gun she bought at Sally Beauty Supply.)
Yet for many years, those second and third holes sat dormant, save for the occasional earring to make sure they didn’t close. So I was thrilled when multiple ear piercings came back into style a few years ago. From that moment on, I’ve been rocking my tiny petal hoop earrings in my second and third holes everywhere. And I do mean everywhere. These babies stay in while I sleep, shower, and workout. They are seriously the most comfortable tiny hoops ever.
But just because I’ve embraced the multiple piercings trend doesn’t mean I can’t also embrace the statement earrings trend. And for my money, nothing pairs better with my tiny petal hoops than the new extra large Evident earrings.
a new painting with a Matisse-inspired color palette
Ever since I read Digital Minimalism (and truthfully, even before that), I’ve been trying to replace my mindless evening phone scrolling time with more time reading books. But I’ll be perfectly honest – some nights my brain is just too tired to read.
That’s when I’ve been turning instead to my collection of exhibition catalogs from the many, many museum exhibitions I’ve seen over the years. Not only is this a more wonderfully tactile way to take in images and great way to revisit some of my favorite shows from over the years, but it’s also been inspiring my own painting.
a little plant, a stripey ceramic cup, and a confession
I have a confession to make. I actually took this photo a while ago, and well, let’s just say that this plant is no longer with us.
I’ve managed to keep a shocking number of plants alive in the last seven months in my journey from black thumb to certified plant lady, but I’ll be honest, they haven’t all made it. And while the old Megan would have chalked those losses up to my inability to keep ANY plant alive, it turns out I’ve also gotten wiser in the last seven months.
finding my voice in painting (and how that relates to my jewelry)
Once I realized I wanted to not only start painting again, but to start sharing and selling those paintings, I found myself wondering how to do that in a way that was cohesive with my existing jewelry brand.
Turns out I shouldn’t have been that worried, because after giving myself room to play, I’m starting to settle into a body of work that feels related to my jewelry but also has a voice of its own.
my MFA thesis is online! (only 13 years after the fact!)
A couple of months back, I shared that I had moved this chair from my MFA thesis into my current studio. What I didn’t share is that one of my big goals (that I could never seem to get around to) was to actually share both the images and text from my thesis on my website.
But finally, only 13 years after I actually completed my thesis, I have FINALLY published my MFA thesis on my website. I’m so proud of not only the work, but the research that went into this project, and it continues to inform not only the designs of my jewelry but how I think about the world to this day.
So if you’re curious to know more about this project, you can see images and read the full text here!
