After spending over a month working on my new ebook, I suddenly found myself with a strong desire to paint.
So I pulled out my watercolor markers and started playing again. And I think it’s pretty evident that all the plants in my studio have totally influenced my paintings, both in shape and color palette.
Yesterday, I went to post the above picture on Instagram, then hesitated.
Why?
Because lately, I’ve been questioning whether it’s worth my time and energy to be sharing so much an a platform I (we) have so little control over. I even wrote an entire post about it on my other blog.
And of course, thanks to Digital Minimalism, I’ve already cut back my time spent scrolling on Instagram significantly.
A little over a month ago, I opened Evernote (because I keep my entire life in Evernote) and wrote the headline “How to Get Sh*t Done While Overanalyzing Everything.” Then I texted it to a friend, joking that it was either the start of a really epic blog post for Designing an MBA or the subtitle of my autobiography.
26,000 words later, it was pretty clear that I had more than a blog post worth of things to say about the subject. And while it didn’t turn into my autobiography, it did turn into a new ebook – Try it and See: How to Get Sh*t Done While Overanalyzing Everything.
Pulled from my own experience running my creative business over the last dozen or so years, as well as the conversations I’ve had with other artists, makers, and business owners, this is a tough love guide to getting past the limiting beliefs that keep creatives from really accomplishing their goals!

I mentioned before that this winter I had to temporarily move out of my studio so that we can repair the subfloor.
Of course, before we can do that, I have to clean out the studio! Lots of orders plus the winter blues have meant I’m a little slow to get moving, but this week I actually put in some serious cleaning time!
One of the dangers of using a torch for your job is that you’re at the risk of burning yourself. Which I did last week, pretty spectacularly, with a ring of hot steel. And that was the moment where I realized that my growing plant collection really, really needed an aloe plant.
Last weekend I went to visit my brother and his family in Delaware, and my reputation as a budding plant lady must be growing (puns intended) because they suggested we take a trip to the local greenhouse for a little Sunday morning plant shopping!
And while I tried to keep my myself from buying too many plants, I did come home with a couple of new peperomias (which is rapidly becoming my favorite plant type) and a few new pots to put them in! I’ve been looking for a few plants to put under this painting on the far wall of my current studio, and I think this little grouping works perfectly!
