Hooray! It’s October, my favorite month of the year! Bring on pumpkins and hot apple cider and ankle boots and cozy sweaters with long necklaces layered on top!

It’s been grey and rainy here the last few days, and while some people might turn towards bright colors on a dreary day, fall always makes me fall even more in love with dark, moody colors. This outfit features my current obsession with layering a bib necklace over beautiful patterns, but in an all grey, black, and white color palette that’s totally me.
From the minute I first laid eyes on some dendritic opal in a gem shop in Jaipur, I knew it was going to be “my” stone. The black and white color palette and fact that so many of the stones were cut into my signature leaf shape had me hooked from the start.
But after working with these stones as part of my Contra Collection, I’ve fallen in love even more. Each stone truly is one of a kind, with incredible detail and interest, more like a miniature painting than a stone.
And since, almost two years later, I’m still totally obsessed with this stone (and since it’s also a mouthful to say) today I thought I’d answer the question…

When it comes to go-to outfits, I’m definitely a boyfriend jeans and oversized cardigan kind of girl. But when I want to feel a little more fancy, by default has got to be a dress and ankle boots. It’s the kind of look I’m apt to wear year round (with a sleeveless dress in the summer and a long sleeve dress or cardigan and tights in the winter). Finished off with a bold bib statement necklace, the dress/ankle boots combo becomes the perfect combination of fancy and funky! (Which is exactly the way I like to dress up!)

Sometimes a basic silhouette just needs a boost. And one of the easiest ways to do that is by swapping boring black pants (or khakis or jeans or whatever bottom you usually default to) with a fun print. It’s an easy way to make a basic outfit way less boring!

As much as I personally love summer sunshine (I do NOT like to be cold), aesthetically I’m definitely a fall/winter kind of person. Deep moody colors, shades of grey, dark florals – I’m just eating it all up as summer fades into fall, and this outfit definitely reflects that! You could wear it to work, brunch, or even Thanksgiving dinner. (If you want to start thinking that far ahead!)

This is one of those simple outfits that’s great to have in your closet for days when you don’t want to think too hard about what to wear to work. It’s pretty effortless, but also incredibly chic. Finish it off with one of my long Contra pendants, which I think is pretty much the perfect accessory for fall! (It works just as well with casual sweaters and cardigans as it does with billowy work blouses!)

After black and white, my next favorite neutral pairing has got to be grey and cream. (And yes, I prefer the British spelling of grey with an E instead of an A.) It’s like black and whites softer sister. And with a cozy, oversized sweater paired with roomy, wide leg pants, this is a look that’s super chic and surprisingly comfy at the same time. Perfect for when you’re feeling that hump day slump but still have to show up and look presentable.
