If you’ve spent any time on Pinterest, you’ve probably come across the above image of Hey Natalie Jean at the Alt Summit white party in 2012.
I was there two years ago, and remember being blow away by how simple and amazing that outfit was. And since, two years later, that look still gets a lot of love on Pinterest, I thought I’d show you how to put it together for yourself. Naturally, I swapped the leopard scarf (not really my style) for one of my own.

I love when workout clothes can transition into every day life. While these leggings aren’t strictly for yoga, they’d be perfect to wear to class. Or, you can just wear them to brunch and make everyone think you came from yoga. And then have that extra mimosa. I won’t tell.

I’m off to New York City this weekend (and for most of next week) and while it’s currently too cold for this look, I still think this is the perfect weekend getaway outfit. It’s cute and casual with lots of layers, perfect for a road trip to some tiny town for brunch and shopping.
And yes, there’s more than one bag. Because I’m a bit of a bag lady and there’s no way I could manage a weekend getaway without multiple bags.

One of my favorite things with the new leggings is imagining how my friends might style them. My friend and fellow jewelry designer Meghan Patrice Riley is obsessed with black, white, and red, so of course, the Magpie leggings are right up her alley.
This outfit is an homage to her (though admittedly, the shoes are probably more my style) and includes one of her amazing ball chain necklaces!

One of the current style trends that I really love is boyfriend jeans rolled and paired with heels. There’s something about the mix of casual and dressy, masculine and feminine, that just works. Or perhaps it’s that it finally gives purpose to the collection of heels in my closet that I never seem to have a place to wear.
I also love that we’ve been pretty much thrown all those old (and kind of pointless) fashion rules out of the window. It’s now ok to mix neutrals, and it’s the mix of nude and grey that keeps this outfit from being too matchy-matchy.

Can I also just add that, even though they are completely pointless in 2014, I might be developing a bit of a watch obsession?
When I designed my new leggings, I thought they’d be great for every day wear – under a dress or a great tunic top. But ever since someone mentioned that they wanted to wear them to go running, I’m obsessed with the idea of my leggings as workout gear too. (And the fabric is perfect for that.)
How much more fun is the idea of going to the gym when you can rock an awesome pair of leggings?

It’s no secret that I love black and white. (Almost as much as I love grey and white.) One of the things I love about black and white is that it lets you do neutrals in a way that isn’t boring. (Anything but.) Black and white plays on one of my favorite design principles – contrast – to create an amazing, eye catching outfit.

It’s about this time of winter where I start dreaming of somewhere warm. And while I’m excited to be heading to SLC for Alt Summit this week, I’d be pretty psyched if I was heading somewhere warm. (Alt in LA next year, anyone?)
