What can I say? More of my paintings keep finding their way onto the walls of my studio. In this case, it was the addition of this new plant that prompted me to hang my painting Morning Reflections over my shipping station.
coffee, jewelry, and inspiring art and architecture on the High Line
On Friday, I went to New York for an artist date with my friend Amber Kane. The plan was to hit up a few museums (which we did) but since it was such a gorgeous day we started it with a walk down the High Line. (Which if you aren’t familiar, is an elevated park built on an old train line.)
It helped that our first stop was the Whitney, which lies at the southern end of the High Line, giving us the perfect excuse to stroll, sip coffee, and take in the art and architecture around the High Line.
black and white statement ring (and paintings)
As I was packing up this Contra Collection ring to ship out to a customer, I couldn’t help photograph it in front of this group of black and white paintings that are currently hanging out in my studio.
one more painting in my studio
After sharing how I was moving paintings around in the current studio, I came across another painting that worked perfectly in the blank space on the back wall.
So here it is! One final painting added to my studio! (Well, at least until I tackle those blank walls I haven’t even shared yet!)
some thoughts on scale
I’ve been thinking a lot about scale lately, particularly in regards to painting. My current painting process of working with watercolor markers on paper seems to lend itself to a small scale, despite my attempts to work bigger.
And why have I wanted to work bigger?
more paintings in my studio
Since I shared one of the paintings in my studio, it seems only fair that I should take you on a visual tour of the others!
the painting behind the plants
I realized that in sharing the plants in my studio, I’ve been sharing lots of glimpses of this painting, but since it brings me so much joy (seriously, I love having it in my studio) I thought it needed a blog post of it’s own! (Especially now that it hangs out with the chair from my MFA thesis.)
I wrote an ebook on the mindset shifts that are essential to getting more done as a creative business owner!
A little over a month ago, I opened Evernote (because I keep my entire life in Evernote) and wrote the headline “How to Get Sh*t Done While Overanalyzing Everything.” Then I texted it to a friend, joking that it was either the start of a really epic blog post for Designing an MBA or the subtitle of my autobiography.
26,000 words later, it was pretty clear that I had more than a blog post worth of things to say about the subject. And while it didn’t turn into my autobiography, it did turn into a new ebook – Try it and See: How to Get Sh*t Done While Overanalyzing Everything.
Pulled from my own experience running my creative business over the last dozen or so years, as well as the conversations I’ve had with other artists, makers, and business owners, this is a tough love guide to getting past the limiting beliefs that keep creatives from really accomplishing their goals!
And I’m so excited to say that it’s available now! And since I know that a lot of the people in my audience have more time to listen in the studio than read, I also made an audio version of the book! Click here to get your hands on the entire digital bundle now!
an update on my studios
I mentioned before that this winter I had to temporarily move out of my studio so that we can repair the subfloor.
Of course, before we can do that, I have to clean out the studio! Lots of orders plus the winter blues have meant I’m a little slow to get moving, but this week I actually put in some serious cleaning time!
#metalsmithproblems and aloe plants
One of the dangers of using a torch for your job is that you’re at the risk of burning yourself. Which I did last week, pretty spectacularly, with a ring of hot steel. And that was the moment where I realized that my growing plant collection really, really needed an aloe plant.
