When I was photographing me with my new larger plant stakes for my “thoughts on scale” post, I couldn’t resist snapping a few more conventional self-portraits as well. I’m not usually one for posting pics where I’m not wearing my (or any) jewelry, but these are such a good representation of how long my hair has gotten (I haven’t cut it since before Covid) that I couldn’t resist sharing!
portrait progression with plant stakes
When I was photographing this pair of new plant stakes, I decided it would be fun to put myself in a few of the pictures. While I’m really happy with the end result (pictured above), what I actually love about these images is they show my thought process as I work through image ideas. Because this was an impromptu photoshoot, I didn’t start with a fully formed image in mind. Instead, I responded to what I was working with and adapted from there.
A simple stake for a trailing plant
It’s pretty common knowledge that if you invite me to come stay with you, I’m probably going to bring you jewelry. And I guess that includes plant jewelry now too! Last weekend I went to Delaware to visit my brother and his family and I couldn’t resist styling a few of my sister-in-laws plants with my new plant stakes!
Of course, it was a pretty even trade, because look at these gorgeous images my brother took!
staking my Hoya pubicalyx
I picked up this sweet little Hoya pubicalyx at one of my local plant shops and of course I couldn’t resist staking it with my new seven leaf arch plant stake.
Jewelry for your plants!
Let’s file this one under, why did it take me so long?!? A couple weeks ago, I looked at one of my plants and realized it needed a stake. The next thing I know, I’m in my studio, going off the plant stake deep end! I’ve been having so much fun taking my signature jewelry forms and turning them into plant stakes. (Or as I like to think of them, supportive jewelry for your plants!)
And because these are too good to keep to myself, you can get your own in my online store!
scenes from the studio + my lady slipper orchid
I was working in my studio over the weekend and I couldn’t help but snap this pic from my workspace with a few Ada necklaces in progress.
hydrangeas, a handmade vase, and stacking rings
In my quest to support my fellow artists and makers during the pandemic, it has occurred to me that I probably don’t need anymore mugs. So when artist Bri Larson released her latest batch of ceramics, I resisted the temptation to buy another mug and opted for this adorable little vase instead.
fresh flowers and simple statement earrings
For the last few months now, I’ve been making it a point to regularly buy myself fresh flowers. It’s such a simple thing, but it makes for an immediate mood boost. On the same day I took pictures for my last post, I couldn’t resist taking a few pictures with this lovely bouquet that I picked up (thanks to contactless pick-up) from my local coffee shop.
new ceramics in my studio
I’ve been continuing my mission of staying home and supporting artists and makers online as much as possible this year. But I will admit I’ve been pretty bad at documenting it, which is a shame, because I’ve purchased some incredible art this year!!
So today, I thought I’d share two recent ceramics purchases on display in my studio. (With some plants and paintings of course!)
poppy season, striped vase, and stacking rings
Poppy season may be long gone (it’s always too short for me) but at least I have these pics I took of these pink poppies from my garden in my Elizabeth Benotti vase. (With my stacking rings in Bubble Gum, Light Raspberry, and Deep Ocean.)
