It’s been a while since I’ve done a handmade mug post, so I thought I’d share this gorgeous mug by Bella Joy Pottery with some of my stacking rings in Emerald Green and a cozy sweater. I love that this combo could just as easily slide from fall to holiday appropriate, and I’m loving the play of all the similar but slightly different greens!
black statement earrings with a leather jacket
After photographing the Verdant earrings in black steel the other day with a white t-shirt and bold lip, I couldn’t resist adding one more layer to the outfit – a leather jacket!
black and white plaid with black and white statement necklace
Sharing this black and navy plaid shirt the other day reminded me that I’ve been meaning to share these other images I took of this Contra Composition necklace with a black and white plaid shirt. (Maybe I didn’t share them before because I wasn’t having quite as a good a hair day when I shot it! But it was a studio day, so #messyhairdontcare)
While it’s easy to keep plaid in the fall bucket, I do love it for casual holiday style as well! Especially if your family gatherings tend towards more casual. A plaid shirt feels festive without being too fancy. (Of course, if you need to dress it up, you can always pair it with a midi skirt for a full on White Christmas inspired holiday look!)
mixing black and navy: casual style edition
This time last year, I was celebrating one of my favorite ways to break style rules, mixing black and navy, with a fairly fancy holiday outfit. So it seems only fitting that this year I celebrate my love for black and navy with a much more casual outfit. (But still with an awesome Contra necklace, because if nature can mix black and navy, so can I!)
Is it sweater weather yet? A grey cardigan and my favorite casual jewelry combo.
This was a crazy month, but one of my favorite parts was heading to San Francisco for a few days. While I always love SF, I was especially happy to trade in the heat and humidity of Central PA summers for jeans, cardigans, and my favorite military jacket.
And now that August is heading for a close (and I’m back in the heat), I’m finding myself wistfully dreaming of sweater weather. In particular, I’m thinking about all the fun jewelry combos I can bring into fall, like the way my favorite casual summer combo (of a Contra pendant and giant circle earrings) works so well with a cozy cardigan.
bold black and white style: midi skirt and flannel button down shirt
Last week, I went to Lancaster to hang with my friend Amber, and she found the most perfect grey wall in her neighborhood to take pictures in front of! (It’s basically my favorite shade of grey.) Fortunately, I was wearing this black and white look that popped perfectly against the wall.
I’ve had this midi skirt for years, but it was only after watching White Christmas for the 500th time (and thinking about classic 50s holiday style), did it occur to me to pair it with this black and white flannel plaid shirt. The result is a bold yet classic look that I’m totally obsessed with. (And that I’ll definitely be wearing again!)
navy, grey, and black casual fall style
After my holiday style post showing my love of black and navy, I wanted to show how mixing these two neutrals also works in a much more casual look. Because the truth is that I’m more likely to be wearing jeans than a skirt, but I’m always likely to be wearing a piece from the Contra Collection. Fortunately, even the more statement pieces, like the Contra necklace, work just as well with jeans and a sweater (and a puffy vest) as they do with holiday looks.
And since adding the vest gives this look a fall vibe, it seemed only appropriate to shoot the look outside. And sine it was cold and windy, some pretty hilarious outtakes were the result.
exploring the murals of Southwest Lancaster (while wearing a necklace OVER a coat)
Last week, I headed down to Lancaster to hang with my friend, scarf designer Amber Kane. Lancaster is going through a bit of a revitalization (some people are even calling it the new Brooklyn), and recently, 28 murals were painted in the Southwest area of Lancaster. So while I was there, I had Amber toss on one of her scarves and some of my jewelry, and we headed out for a little street style photo shoot adventure!
Because not only are the murals a gorgeous addition to the city, but they also make a fantastic backdrop for photos!
Contra Composition Necklace No. 29 + the most fabulous coat from Anthropologie
After spending an almost ridiculous amount of time scrolling street style photos on Pinterest, I’ve decided that my ultimate look is jeans, a statement necklace, and a really fabulous coat. Obviously I’ve already got a handle on the statement necklace part (and I’ve got plenty of jeans), so when I came across this floral coat on Anthropologie, I bought it (almost) without hesitation.
And I absolutely adore the way it looks with this Contra Composition necklace.
#thisisfall (and it’s sort of ridiculous)
This is one of those times where the final images really don’t reflect the ridiculousness required to get to them. I really wanted to do a shoot that incorporated one of my statement necklaces with some fall leaves before they all come down. But the only tree at my disposal where the leaves were even remotely close to reachable was on a hill in my front yard. So I balanced my tripod on the hill and hoped people wouldn’t look at me too funny as they drove by. And then not long after I finished the shoot, it started to snow. Because fall is very pretty, but very weird.
