Now that it’s gotten cold, I’m thinking about all the ways I can stay warm while still dressing with some style. And for me, that means looking for ways to wear a necklace and a scarf at the same time. I realize that for most people, it’s a one or the other proposition (since they seem to be competing for the same space on your body). But necklaces and scarves don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Wearing them together is a surprising way to take your accessorizing to the next level. And because I’m a go big or go home kind of girl, here are three ways to combine some pretty serious statement necklaces with a giant, cozy blanket scarf:
8 ways to wear an oversized cardigan
Anyone who knows me knows I can’t function without an oversized cardigan. Whether I’m hanging out at home, hopping on an airplane, or even out shopping with friends, you’re unlikely to see me without a chunky cardigan. I’ve amassed a pretty solid collection of these cozy sweaters over the years, and thanks to the current obsession over hygge (the Danish concept of coziness) it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing the even more cardigans this year. Of course, an oversized cardigan doesn’t have to look schlubby. Read on for eight of my favorite ways to rock a chunky cardigan:
plaid party style
1/ checked knitted dress // 2/ contra bib necklace // 3/ clutch // 4/ ballet flats
I had grand plans to post some pretty fantastic party dresses here in the weeks leading up to Christmas. But then the Christmas craziness got to me, and I fell a little behind. But that shouldn’t stop me from sharing these fun outfits right? Besides, Christmas isn’t the only time to wear a fun dress, right? January is a great time to commit to upping your everyday style. Plus, post-Christmas sales are a great time to snag a cute new dress, and it’s silly to wait until next holiday season to wear it!
chic and edgy holiday party style: distressed denim and a velvet military jacket
1/ velvet military jacket // 2/ satin cami // 3/ boyfriend jeans // 4/ contra necklace // 5/ envelope bag // 6/ curve post earrings // 7/ arnita pumps
This look would be perfect a more casual holiday party or an amazing New Year’s Eve night out. And while I’m loving the dark and edgy color palette of black and blue (which is mirrored in the necklace), I’m also loving the idea of throwing in an unexpected pop of rose gold in the clutch. It’s the perfect finishing touch to the perfect party ready outfit.
dark and romantic holiday style
1/ lace-paneled dress // 2/ contra bib necklace // 3/ velvet bow clutch // 5/ ankle wrapped pumps
There’s no rule that says you have to wear sparkles to a holiday party. This incredibly chic look draws on of the moment velvet and lace for a dark and romantic nod to the holiday season.
holiday party style: dress, boots, and a statement necklace
1/ chiffon dress / 2/ faye shoulder bag // 3/ contra bib necklace // 4/ mixed metal stacking rings // 5/ tall boots
Ok, so I know there’s nothing about this look that overtly says “I’m going to a holiday party.” But that’s also the beauty of a look like this. I mean, I’m a big fan of sequins and sparkles, but it’s hard to wear them once the holidays are over. But a dress like this? You’ll get a ton of mileage out of it, from wearing it with boots and tights for a cozy holiday look to dressing it up with some amazing heels. You can even pair it with sandals to extend it’s life well into the spring. Which makes a holiday party the perfect excuse to invest (or splurge) in that dress (or statement necklace) you’ve had your eye on, knowing you’ll be able to wear it long after the holidays end.
holiday style with a nod to the 90s
1/ wool coat // 2/ cropped sleeve sweater // 3/ plaid skirt // 4/ contra bib necklace // 5/ faye shoulder bag // 6/ black stacking rings // 7/ moto booties
I started out trying to find a way to style this plaid skirt for a holiday party, and soon realized that I managed to put something together that looks like it was pulled from the wardrobe department of any number of 90s movies. (Personally I’m pretending it’s from Empire Records, one of my all time faves.) But then I figured, if you have to go home for the holidays anyway, why not relive a little of your teen angst with a holiday outfit that’s a nod to the 90s.
cozy holiday style
1/ ribbed turtleneck // 2/ midi blanket skirt // 3/ long contra pendant // 4/ mixed metal stacking rings // 5/ zepia boot
When it comes to holiday style ideas, I’ve been having a lot of fun creating outfits with plenty of style. (Probably because I don’t get to wear clothes like that in my everyday life.) But there are plenty of ways to do holiday style if you’re not so into the bling. This skirt feels cozy and wintery, and when paired with a turtleneck and tall boots, will have you feeling festive and comfy at the same time.
8 Thanksgiving outfit ideas
Thanksgiving can be one of the trickiest holidays to dress for. (At least it is for me.) My gut instinct is always to dress up (because it’s fun), but we typically do Thanksgiving dinner with my in-laws, who are always dressed very casually. So choosing my Thanksgiving outfit always seems to be about finding the balance between casual and dressy. (Not to mention the fact that, after eating all that food, you’ve also got to throw in the comfort factor.) Whether your style swings more towards casual or you’re looking to go just a little dressier, I’ve rounded up eight outfit ideas that would be perfect to wear to Thanksgiving dinner!
casual and a little bit edgy
1/ two-tone sweater // 2/ boyfriend jeans // 3/ contra noir necklace // 4/ cross body bag // 5/ black stacking rings // 6/ ankle booties
When it comes to my casual style, I like outfits that have just a little bit of attitude to them. Which is why my closet is filled with distressed denim, ankle boots, and lots of black and grey. Of course, it never hurts to top off the look with a totally bold (and slightly badass) necklace!
