If there was a theme for this week, it might be plaid and cobalt blue. Something about fall just seems to be calling for deeper colors and plaid. (Why is plaid such a thing for fall? All the hot cocoa and hay rides?) This outfit pairs those fall trends with a tulle skirt, taking something that’s a little (ok, a lot) on the extravagant side and making it more work appropriate. And if tulle skirts aren’t really your thing, you could swap it out for dress slacks or a great pair of distressed jeans for a more weekend look.

I’m not gonna lie. I originally designed this outfit with a completely different watch. But then Apple released their new Watch yesterday. And I. Want. One.

Expect to see the Apple Watch in at least a few more blog posts. Because once I get my hands on one, I plan on wearing it with everything.

I always feel a little conflicted at the start of fall. On one hand, it means the end of summer (and warm weather) and that winter is just around the corner. (Winter and I are not really friends.) On the other hand, fall fashion.

And fall really is the perfect time for fashion experimentation. Now that you don’t have to worry about sweating every time you walk outside, it’s easier to play with lots of different looks. Cooler mornings and evenings make layering not only possible, but essential. But, it’s not yet so cold that you need a million layers (and have to fight the desire to even leave the house in the cold).

So bring on fall fashion! Including a fantastic statement coat and some wedge booties. (Definitely my favorite type of heel.) This outfit could be perfect for a fall date night. You would certainly be the chicest person at the hay ride. (Or the football game. Because while I do like football, I like fashion more.)

It always seems a little crazy to talk about fall style when it’s still officially summer. (As someone who loves summer, it always makes me feel like I’m cheating a little.) But now that kids are back to school and there’s a slight chill in the morning and evening air, it’s hard to deny that fall is on it’s way.

This is one of those simple outfits that’s destined to become a fall uniform. The asymmetric hem makes a pretty basic shirt much more interesting, ankle boots are the way to go as we transition from summer to fall, and to top it all off, an easy to wear necklace.

Growing up, my dream was to become the first woman President of the United States. And while I’ve never completely given up on the idea of someday running for public office, I’ve clearly traded a career in politics for one in art, design, and fashion. Which is why my new goal is to have my jewelry worn by the first woman President of the United States. And the second. And the third.

This outfit, complete with my Susan necklace (aptly named for suffragette Susan B. Anthony), would look completely sharp during a day of campaigning.
