one dress, two ways: night and day
I love having an excuse to buy a fantastic dress. Whether it’s a wedding or an evening out, it’s fun to have a reason to get a little dolled up.
But I hate the idea of that fantastic dress sitting in my closet, never being worn again. Fortunately, swapping heels for boots, bare legs for leggings, and evening accessories for a classic cardigan takes a stunning nighttime look and makes it practical for every day wear.

what to wear on the flight home
The flight home from any trip can pose an interesting fashion dilemma. Since you’ve been away, most of your clothes are probably now dirty. You want to be comfortable. But you don’t want to look like a total bum, in case you run into someone you know in the airport.
This outfit is pretty similar to the one I wore home from my recent trip to the West Coast. It’s fun, comfy, and easy. And don’t worry about the mix of neutrals – that’s totally ok now. (I love that we’re finally letting go of those dated fashion rules!)
1/ cotton jersey shirt dress // 2/ remnant leggings // 3/ open cardigan // 4/ adventure bag // 5/ yoga sling sandal
weekend getaway // blacks + brights
The calendar says it spring, but the weather? It’s still not sure.
This outfit bridges the transition from winter to spring and the bright pops of color serve as a reminder that warmer days will be here soon!

how to wear a floral print with printed leggings
In case it isn’t obvious, I’ve become a big fan of pattern mixing. And it’s not just here on the blog. Yesterday, I wore this dress and leggings combo in real life.
As I’ve mentioned before, the secret to mixing patterns is to vary the scale but keep the color palette related. That makes it possible to mix this spring’s florals (they are all over the place) with a pair of my printed leggings and not look like a crazy person!
1/ floral henley shirtdress // 2/ royal leggings // 3/ kathrine earrings // 4/ canvas tote // 5/ printed espadrilles
one shirt, two ways: business and casual
This military-inspired shirt jacket is incredibly versatile. For starters, you could wear it as a shirt or a jacket. It could also translate really easily from a great business look (paired with a pencil skirt) to a casual, weekend look (with your favorite leggings, of course).
1/ shirt jacket // 2/ faux raffia pencil skirt // 3/ alice necklace // 4/ wings foldover clutch // 5/ henry glitz watch // 6/ patent leather pumps //
1/ shirt jacket // 2/ stem weekend bag // 3/ jackie boots // 4/ racer back tank // 5/ shades necklace // 6/ wellspring leggings
rainy day
I’m spending the week in the Pacific Northwest, and in the spirit of that, I put together this outfit that’s perfect for a rainy day. The leggings and umbrella add little pops of color to any grey day.
1/ turnbridge trench coat // 2/ remnant leggings // 3/ split neck tunic // 4/ haberton umbrella // 5/ hunter boots
hunter green + painterly leggings
One of the on-trend colors for spring is hunter green. It’s the perfect transitional color as we move from winter to spring, and it serves as a more interesting neutral than tan or khaki.
Grab this color in a sweater or jacket and pair it with my painterly (another spring trend) wellspring leggings for a look that’s casual and easy, yet doesn’t scream “I’m trying really hard to hit all the trends at once!”
1/ cabled tunic // 2/ wellspring leggings // 3/ enchain necklace // 4/ stem shoulder bag // 5/ courtney bootie
one sweater, two ways: workday to weekend chunky knit sweater
casual and sporty
Where I live, the dominant fashion style is casual. And when I say casual, I mean the “I just rolled out of bed” or the “I’m on my way to the gym” look. (Or in reality, the “I’m not going to the gym at all today, I just wear workout clothes all the time” look.)
I can’t blame people. Workout clothes are pretty comfy. And it’s hard to feel motivated to dress up when the only place you’re going for the day is the grocery store. (Where everyone is wearing sweats.) So if you’re going to look like you’re on your way to the gym, at least do it with a little style.
