I took these pics back in December when I was photographing some new Evident earrings, but somehow, they just didn’t feel right to share over the holiday season. Instead, I decided to hold off posting until January, because they definitely have a new year, new energy vibe that I am down for.
dressing up in comfort: floral midi skirt and colorful chain necklace
Since the pandemic started, I can count the number of times I’ve dressed up on one hand. (And I can count the number of times I’ve worn jeans on one finger.) It’s safe to say, I’ve fully embraced all things comfort when it comes to my wardrobe. I mean, my day to day has been pretty much running shorts, joggers, and leggings for years now (that’s what happens when you spend your days jumping between working in the studio and coaching high school cross county and track) but now that I’m going almost nowhere (thanks pandemic), it seems my comfy clothes are officially here to stay.
simple and chic professional style: floral blouse and statement necklace
I know that today is the first day back at work for many after the holiday break, so I thought I’d share some office outfit inspiration. (I was actually back to work for a full day in my studio yesterday, but since I can wear sweatpants to work, it’s not really the same.) This look continues my obsession with layering a bib necklace over a floral top, and the entire look is simple chic without being stuffy.
1/ floral printed blouse // 2/ slim leg pants // 3/ contra bib necklace // 4/ faye satchel // 5/ curve post earrings // 6/ leather pumps
subtle and chic holiday style
1/ cashmere sweater // 2/ plaid trousers // 3/ contra bib necklace // 4/ zipper clutch // 5/ curve post earrings // 6/ d’orsay pumps
Holiday style doesn’t have to be limited to crazy amounts of sequins or over the top sweaters. You can pull together a totally chic look that’s a much more subtle nod to the holidays. Like a sweater that isn’t your typical holiday green. And plaid pants with just a touch of a candy cane color palette. Of course, you can always glam it up just a touch with a little glitter on your shoes. The result. A totally chic look that can go from office to holiday party without ever feeling like a Christmas cliche.
how to wear sweatpants to a holiday party (and still look chic)
1/ cashmere jacket // 2/ knit jogger // 3/ contra bib necklace // 4/ bow cut clutch // 5/ curve post earrings // 6/ leather pumps
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably already mastered the art of wearing leggings to events more formal than they were originally intended. (I’m pretty much always cold, so leggings under a dress is my staple eight months out of the year.) But once you’ve mastered the fancy leggings look, here’s a new one to try. Sweatpants to a holiday party. I mean, haven’t we all had nights where we just wanted to stay home in sweats instead of going out?
The secret starts with choosing the right sweatpants. You want to get a pair of joggers – something that tapers down to the ankle – and be sure to choose a high quality fabric. (And pretty please, nothing with logos or letters!) From there, it’s a matter of pairing your sweats with a more formal top, heels (or super dressy flats) and a great statement necklace to draw attention away from the fact that you’re technically wearing sweatpants.
And the best part? Not only is wearing sweatpants a cozier alternative to that fancy party skirt, but dressing up a pair of joggers is a next level style trick that will literally make you the most stylish person in the room. It’s a total win-win!
holiday party style: dress, boots, and a statement necklace
1/ chiffon dress / 2/ faye shoulder bag // 3/ contra bib necklace // 4/ mixed metal stacking rings // 5/ tall boots
Ok, so I know there’s nothing about this look that overtly says “I’m going to a holiday party.” But that’s also the beauty of a look like this. I mean, I’m a big fan of sequins and sparkles, but it’s hard to wear them once the holidays are over. But a dress like this? You’ll get a ton of mileage out of it, from wearing it with boots and tights for a cozy holiday look to dressing it up with some amazing heels. You can even pair it with sandals to extend it’s life well into the spring. Which makes a holiday party the perfect excuse to invest (or splurge) in that dress (or statement necklace) you’ve had your eye on, knowing you’ll be able to wear it long after the holidays end.
rocker chic work style
1/ blush biker jacket // 2/ cami top // 3/ wool trousers // 4/ contra noir necklace // 5/ knot clutch // 6/ curve post earrings // 7/ kaden bootie
I like the idea of taking rocker chic pieces and toning them down with a softer color palette. (Plus I’m loving the blush and gunmetal combo with just a few hints of black.) It’s totally unexpected and a perfect way to show your edgier side at work without being, you know, too edgy.
how to wear a party skirt for day
1/ silk blouse // 2/ long cardigan // 3/ striped midi skirt // 4/ contra bib necklace // 5/ faye clutch // 6/ fenix watch // 7/ lace up open toe heels
How do you take a playful skirt that feels party ready and make it appropriate for everyday? By layering on a more casual cardigan, of course! I’m all about using a cardigan to make a fancy look more casual. (Not to mention the fact that I’m always cold, so any time I can add another layer, I will.) The end result is definitely a little granny chic, but in a really fun way that’s perfect for work (or just for fun).
8 simple and chic outfits to wear to work
Somedays, getting dressed can be hard, especially if it’s for work. But these eight simple outfits will have you feeling chic and ready to go with minimal effort!
midi skirt and moto jacket
1/ zipped moto jacket // 2/ pleated midi skirt // 3/ ribbed jersey tank // 4/ contra bib necklace // 5/ garmin fenix watch // 6/ mixed metal stacking rings // 7/ melody point heel
The other night I actually had a dream that I was running late for a function and pulled together an outfit very similar to this, with an olive green skirt and colored biker jacket. The outfit looked super chic, especially when I tossed on one of my bib necklaces to complete the look. And since I don’t have a skirt or jacket like this in my actual wardrobe, I figured I needed to pull the look together for my blog!
