My apologies for the cheesy post title, but what can I say? I am an 80s kid! But seriously, I’ve been experimenting with scale in the studio, and I couldn’t resist taking the original Madeleine necklace (shown above) and turning it into this:
my favorite way to wear a statement necklace
Last week, I shared this necklace with a black and white plaid shirt, which is a look I love. But the truth is, my absolute favorite way to wear a statement necklace (ok, really any necklace) is with a simple tank or t-shirt. (With a cozy, chunky cardigan thrown on top if it’s cold.)
I just love how the simple style really shows off the necklace, and how the necklace really elevates such a simple (and comfortable) outfit!
black and white plaid with black and white statement necklace
Sharing this black and navy plaid shirt the other day reminded me that I’ve been meaning to share these other images I took of this Contra Composition necklace with a black and white plaid shirt. (Maybe I didn’t share them before because I wasn’t having quite as a good a hair day when I shot it! But it was a studio day, so #messyhairdontcare)
While it’s easy to keep plaid in the fall bucket, I do love it for casual holiday style as well! Especially if your family gatherings tend towards more casual. A plaid shirt feels festive without being too fancy. (Of course, if you need to dress it up, you can always pair it with a midi skirt for a full on White Christmas inspired holiday look!)
mixing black and navy: casual style edition
This time last year, I was celebrating one of my favorite ways to break style rules, mixing black and navy, with a fairly fancy holiday outfit. So it seems only fitting that this year I celebrate my love for black and navy with a much more casual outfit. (But still with an awesome Contra necklace, because if nature can mix black and navy, so can I!)
revisiting an old statement necklace
While I was packing for my trip to New York City Jewelry Week, I came across this necklace that I actually made ten years ago (I even have the blog post to prove it) but never did anything with.
But after wearing it around New York for a few days, it’s definitely inspiring ideas some ideas for new work! And since I never photographed it on a person the first time around, I decided it needed a few pics of me wearing it!
yes, you can… wear a statement necklace in the studio!
For me, one of the highest compliments is when other artists buy my jewelry. Because, personally, I think there’s nothing more awesome than a badass artist rocking a statement necklace while working in the studio! And to prove it, I pulled on my own painting apron and snapped a few pics while wearing the Vivian necklace!
straw hat + statement ring
I wasn’t kidding when I said you can expect to see this hat popping up more often. Not only does it make the most fun photo prop, but I love how it makes my Contra Ring pop!
summer hat love: styled with my favorite summer jewelry combo
If you’ve been hanging around here for a while, you might have spotted my love for (obsession with) Nickichicki hats this past winter. It’s pretty safe to say that, at least during winter, I’ve officially become a hat person. And now, thanks to this black straw hat I picked up last week, I might officially become a summer hat person too!
Especially when that hat works so well with my favorite summer jewelry combo of the Giant Silver on Steel Circle Earrings and a Contra Pendant. (And definitely expect to see this hat popping up with a few other outfit/jewelry combinations as well! I’m obsessed!)
mixing up my summer style
I actually took these pics much earlier in the spring (and obviously right after I got my hair done, if only it stayed that good all the time) but I’m only getting around to posting them now. (Which makes sense, because this is definitely a summer look!)
After the one dress challenge, I’ve learned that some of my all time favorite outfits involve high waisted midi skirts, and I decided that shouldn’t stop now that summer is here. This outfit is my attempt to do a little pattern mixing (while staying in my favorite color palette). Who says you can’t make grey work in the summer? Plus, I’m obsessed with the way this Contra Composition necklace looks with this shirt! (Necklace available in my online store.)
statement earrings for summer
When I first re-introduced my silver on steel collection, I started with the same sizes I had used in the original collection. But, true to form, I immediately found myself craving larger styles. And nowhere was that more true than in earrings.
While I may be a necklace girl most of the year, summer has me craving statement earrings. There’s just something nice about a statement accessory that doesn’t cling to you in the heat!
So I set out to create pretty much my perfect summer statement earrings, and I think I pretty much hit it out of the park with these giant silver on steel statement earrings. They’re super lightweight, full of impact, and incredibly unique.
Plus, they work with so many different summer styles, I’ve worn them with dresses and running shorts, and they work equally well with both! (And if you want your own pair, they’re available now in my online store.)
