This weekend kicks off the start of summer picnic season, which means lots of opportunities to try and nail that casual but chic look that will make you the style hit of the barbecue. One option that’s totally chic is to opt for white pants in a classic silhouette. Don’t forget big dark sunnies to really finish off the look and add a bit of mystery.

If you saw my last post (or a lot of other posts here, for that matter) then it’s no secret that I love a good maxi dress. There’s just something about feeling totally dressed up and totally comfy at the same time that always makes a maxi dress a winner.
This outfit continues my project of updating some of my favorite looks from last summer with pieces from my new collection. I love the idea of pairing a botanical-shaped necklace over the geometric print of this maxi dress. Can’t you just imagine wearing this outfit while you sip cocktails poolside? (Or as is more likely in my case, while you drink beers at the local craft brewery!)

But since that necklace is sold out (and since I just found out Season 2 of States of Undress comes out next month!!) I thought it would be fun to revisit the look with my new statement earrings.

Ok, I’ll admit. I’m finally all in on the statement earring trend. It’s not that I don’t love big earrings (a few years ago, I spent the whole summer designing long, asymmetrical earrings) it’s just that last summer I was so enamored with the statement necklaces of the Contra Collection. But even I have to admit that as summer heat sets in, it can be hard to work up the motivation to wear a massive necklace. Enter statement earrings – which can have just as much impact without getting stuck to sweaty summer skin. And since many of the necklaces I featured in last summer’s style posts are now sold out, I thought it would be fun to update some of my favorite looks from last summer with pieces from the new collection. After all, what better way to breath new life into your wardrobe than with some fun new accessories?!?

It’s finally starting to feel like summer here, which means I can finally wear all those summer dresses I brought back from India in March! Of course, since it’s not technically summer yet, a great little jacket is a must for cooler mornings and evenings.

I was originally going to style this with some fancy heeled shoes, but decided a great pair of flat sandals were really perfect, especially for these early falls days that are still quite warm in the afternoon.

We’re out that point in the season where mornings and evenings are cool enough for a cozy cardigan, but the days are still super hot. This outfit is pretty much perfect for days like that! (And yes, with the white statement necklace and white shoes, I’m breaking that whole “don’t wear white after Labor Day” rule! But I say rules like that are meant to be broken!)

Summer may be drawing to a close but I’m guessing floral prints and off the shoulder tops will persist well into fall. Something else I’ll be doing well into fall? Layering a bold necklace over a patterned top. It’s my current obsession and I don’t see it subsiding any time soon! (And yes, you can wear a bold necklace with an off the shoulder top!)

Last week I talked about how to transition a simple summer dress into fall. Today, I’m sharing another option: layering a dress over jeans. I love layering dresses over jeans, particular if the dress is a little short for your comfort level. (Especially if you accidentally shrunk it in the wash, which seems to always happen to me!) And of course, you can top this look off with a cardigan (always my preference), jacket or blazer as temps start to drop!
